La nociones de «postmodernidad», «postmodernismo» y «postmoderno» han sido algunas de las más influyentes – y también controvertidas – en el pensamiento contemporáneo, a partir de la década de los 70 en la arquitectura, el arte, la crítica literaria y la cinematografía y, desde los 80, en la filosofía, la sociología, la antropología, la crítica cultural, la geografía, las ciencias políticas y prácticamente todas las disciplinas en los más diversos contextos.
