CALL FOR APPLICATION 2012-2013

In 2013, voyons voir places its residencies in the contemporary art route “Ulysses” initiated by the Fond Régional d’Art Contemporain PACA on the occasion of Marseilles-Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture.
I. PRESENTATION OF VOYONS VOIR
The structure, voyons voir contemporary art and territory had been created 2007. It develops artists in residence network and the creation of visual artworks in Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur area, within vineyards and landscaped estates but also within patrimony.
Through its residences and following activities (exhibitions, integration of artworks in landscapes and patrimony routes, editions), the structure works for a better legibility of the current artistic practices inserting them in natural places, farming zones and architectural patrimony.

II. RESIDENCY THEMES
Odysseus is back in Ithaca after twenty years of roving. When he set foot on his native land, he is not the same man he used to be; time makes irreversible transformations on himself, his relatives and environment.
“Peu à peu quoiqu’aussitôt”(“little by little though immediately”), quotation from Maurice Blanchot, defines the metamorphosis time, and giving to understand that this is an action crossed by the axis of time, a movement formed by several steps, intermediate states, and intervening periods inhere in this process.
Metamorphosis leads to a change in shape or nature of the object/subject concerned by this transformation, and paradoxically can generate a lost at the same time as a rise. Whatever if the metamorphosis is gradual or sudden, substantive or superficial, it is always ineluctable
The creators (artists and designers) will focus their researches on the idea of transformation and particularly on the intermediate states which characterise it.
The designers will work more particularly around the idea of garden, delimited space inside the vineyard, which is itself an echo to the transformation process seen as the object of recognition. We can notice it in the Odyssey epilogue, when Odysseus meets his father Laërtes in his garden.
III. GOALS AND ORGANISATION OF THE RESIDENCE
Period of residency: one month (consecutively or not) between November 2012 and March 2013
Period of exhibition: from April to the end of 2013
Residency and exhibition locations: vineyards in Aix-en-Provence surrounding areas

Conditions of residency :
The residence takes place during 4/5 weeks, consecutively or not. Every artist has:
- Accommodation and studio in the vineyard associated
- Production grant of 2 000 – 3 000 € (upon presentation of bills)
- Residency allowance of 1 000 €
- Transport expenses from 250 € for local artists or designers to 500 € for national and international ones (upon presentation of bills)
voyons voir gives a regular helping hand to every artist and designer, following them in their production process : networking, logistical help, support from the technical manager…
Reciprocal obligations between the structure, the vineyard and the artist/designer in residence will be determined by an agreement set up at the beginning of the residency period.
IV. ARTISTS/DESIGNERS SELECTION
After the examination of the project and artistic approach, eight artists/designers will be selected. The jury of residence will be composed by professionals from the artistic sphere (art critics, galerists, professors, cultural institutionals…)
The selected artists/designers will be posted to a residency place according to their capacity to face this new environment, to occupy and integrate it into their own artistic process.
The selected artists/designers will be notified at the end of June 2012 at the latest, by mail or email. They will have to come to see the place of their residence and propose a specific project before the 15th September 2012.

V. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
A portfolio (paper or electronic version) representative of the artist or designer’s works and artistic approach.
This portfolio must be composed of :
- a statement of intent
- visuals aids with captions
- full résumé (CV)
- complete address (name, email address, post address, phone number, website)
- a self-addressed stamped envelope, for return of mailed if required (Foreign candidates are invited to order French stamps on www.laposte.net)
