Words narrate stories, express cultures, bring close or move apart, unite and separate, provoke misunderstandings and sometimes cause great distances. A misused word can provoke great ruptures; knowing other words can, in turn, open the doors of entire worlds and the souls of many people. Living without them would mean lack of communication and isolation. Everyday we need more, vocabularies and streets get filled up with new terms, cultural interactions in big cities and global societies entail an effort of major understanding, without which it is more complex to get over natural frictions.
Contemporary cosmopolitan cities live submerged in a context of continuous infoxication and in order to untangle ourselves from this spider's web that asphyxiates us, we need new communicative tools that go beyond borders.
The work Untranslatables - A guide to Translingual Dialogue, fruit of the collaboration of four artists coming from different countries (Yolanda de los Bueis; Elisa Marchesini; Christoph Schwarz; Sarah Vanhee) is a transcultural communication process in the shape of a book. A guide that sets the grounds for a "liquid language", a language that discovers and reveals new narratives, that goes deep into "in-between" spaces and that proposes, at the same time, solutions of encounter and reduction of misunderstandings.
Words, expressions, that are untranslatable and that neither require nor need translation, but a process of more complex and more efficient cultural interchange and deepening. Paraphrasing Bourriaud we could say that it is about capturing the codes of culture, the expressions of everyday life, the works of global heritage, and make them work.

Las palabras cuentan historias, expresan culturas, acercan y alejan, unen y separan, provocan malentendidos y a veces llegan a ser la causa de grandes distancias. Una palabra mal dicha puede provocar graves rupturas; el conocimiento de otras puede, en cambio, abrir las puertas de mundos enteros y las almas de muchas personas. Vivir sin ellas significaría incomunicación y aislamiento. Cada día necesitamos más, los vocabularios y las calles se llenan de términos nuevos, las interacciones culturales en las urbes y en las sociedades globales comportan un esfuerzo de entendimiento mayor sin el cual se hace más complejo superar las naturales fricciones.
Las cosmópolis contemporáneas viven sumergidas en un contexto de continua infoxicación y para desenredarse de esta telaraña que nos asfixia, necesitamos herramientas comunicativas nuevas y que traspasen fronteras.
La obra Untranslatables - A Guide to Translingual Dialogue, fruto de la colaboración de 4 artistas procedentes de distintos países (Yolanda de los Bueis; Elisa Marchesini; Christoph Schwarz; Sarah Vanhee), se conforma como un proceso de comunicación trans-cultural bajo forma de libro. Una guía que sienta las bases para un "lenguaje líquido", un lenguaje que descubre y desvela nuevas narrativas, que se adentra en los espacios "in-between" y que propone, al mismo tiempo, soluciones de encuentro y reducciones de malentendidos.
Palabras, expresiones, que son intraducibles y que no requieren ni necesitan traducción, sino un proceso de intercambio y de profundización cultural más complejo pero al mismo tiempo más eficaz. Parafraseando a Bourriaud diríamos que se trata de captar los códigos de la cultura, las expresiones de la vida cotidiana, las obras del patrimonio global, y hacerlas funcionar.

Le parole raccontano storie, esprimono culture, avvicinano ed allontanano, uniscono e separano, provocano malintesi e alle volte possono essere la causa di grandi distanze. Una parola detta male può provocare gravi rotture; la conoscenza di altre può, invece, aprire le porte di mondi interi e le anime di molte persone. Vivere senza di loro significherebbe mancanza di comunicazione e isolamento.
Il bisogno di nuove parole cresce giorno dopo giorno, i vocabolari e le strade si riempiono sempre di più di nuovi termini, le interazioni culturali nelle città e nelle società globali richiedono uno sforzo d'intelletto maggiore senza il quale diviene ancora più complesso superare le naturali frizioni.
Le cosmopoli contemporanee vivono sommerse in un contesto di continua infossicazione e per districarsi in questa ragnatela che ci asfissia, abbiamo bisogno di strumenti di comunicazione nuovi e che oltrepassino le frontiere.
L'opera Untranslatables - A Guide to Translingual Dialogue, frutto della collaborazione di 4 artisti provenienti da paesi distinti (Yolanda de los Bueis; Elisa Marchesini; Christoph Schwarz; Sarah Vanhee), si configura come un processo di comunicazione trans-culturale sotto forma di libro. Una guida che pone le basi per un "linguaggio liquido", un linguaggio che scopre e rivela nuove narrative, che si addentra negli spazi "in-between" e che propone, allo stesso tempo, soluzioni d'incontro e riduzioni di fraintendimenti.
Parole, espressioni, che sono intraducibili e che né richiedono né hanno bisogno di traduzione, ma di un processo d'intercambio e di approfondimento culturale più complesso, ma allo stesso tempo più efficace.
Parafrasando l'autore francese Nicolas Bourriaud, diremmo che si tratta di captare i codici della cultura, le espressioni della vita quotidiana, le opere del patrimonio globale, e farle funzionare.

Οι λέξεις λένε ιστορίες, εκφράζουν πολιτισμούς, φέρνουν κοντά ή απομακρύνουν, ενώνουν και χωρίζουν, προκαλούν παρεξηγήσεις και κάποιες φορές προκαλούν μεγάλες αποστάσεις. Μια λέξη που χρησιμοποιείται λάθος μπορεί να προκαλέσει μεγάλες ρήξεις· η γνώση άλλων λέξεων, μπορεί, με τη σειρά της, να ανοίξει τις πόρτες ολόκληρων κόσμων και τις ψυχές των ανθρώπων. Το να ζεις χωρίς αυτές θα ισοδυναμούσε με έλλειψη επικοινωνίας και απομόνωση. Κάθε μέρα χρειαζόμαστε περισσότερες, τα λεξικά και οι δρόμοι γεμίζουν με νέους όρους, οι πολιτιστικές ανταλλαγές στις μεγάλες πόλεις και στις παγκόσμιες κοινωνίες περικλείουν μια προσπάθεια για μεγαλύτερη κατανόηση, χωρίς την οποία είναι πιο πολύπλοκο να υπερβούμε τις φυσικές τριβές.
Οι σύγχρονες κοσμοπόλεις ζουν βυθισμένες σε μια συνεχή υπερπληροφόρηση και προκειμένου να απεγκλωβιστούμε από αυτό τον ιστό αράχνης που μας προκαλεί ασφυξία χρειαζόμαστε νέα επικοινωνιακά εργαλεία που πηγαίνουν πέρα από τα σύνορα.
Το έργο Untranslatables - A guide to Translingual Dialogue, καρπός συνεργασίας τεσσάρων καλλιτεχνών από διαφορετικές χώρες (Yolanda de los Bueis; Elisa Marchesini; Christoph Schwarz; Sarah Vanhee) είναι μια διαδικασία διαπολιτισμικής συνεργασίας στη μορφή βιβλίου. Ένας οδηγός που θέτει τις βάσεις για μια "ρευστή γλώσσα", μια γλώσσα που ανακαλύπτει και αποκαλύπτει νέες αφηγήσεις, που εξερευνά σε βάθος τους χώρους που υπάρχουν "στο ενδιάμεσο" και που προτείνει, ταυτόχρονα, λύσεις συνάντησης και μείωσης παρεξηγήσεων.
Λέξεις, εκφράσεις που είναι μη μεταφράσιμες και που δεν απαιτούν ούτε χρειάζονται μετάφραση, αλλά μια διαδικασία περισσότερο πολύπλοκης και αποδοτικής πολιτιστικής ανταλλαγής και εμβάθυνσης. Παραφράζοντας τον Bourriaud θα μπορούσαμε να πούμε ότι το ζήτημα είναι να κατακτήσουμε τους κώδικες της κουλτούρας, τις εκφράσεις τις καθημερινής ζωής, τα έργα της παγκόσμιας κληρονομιάς και να τα κάνουμε να λειτουργήσουν.
